Cultural Cabaret @ Little Bolton Town Hall
8pm Thursday 6th February 2020
The special guest for the night was Icarus Williams, Musician and Stand-up comedian, who has shared the bill with the likes of Billy Brag, Attila the Stockbroker and Tim Moon. Icarus was joined by the Blazing Snowmen whose unique sound and lyrics have been described as a cross between Alan Bennett and the Lancashire Doors. Also featuring were: Comedian Andy Millican, Singer Paul Gastall, Rory Green(Jazz guitarist) and Spoken Word Artists Gillian Popplewell & Dave Burnham.
The compere for the evening was Keyboardist Peter Firth joined by guest compere Performance Poet and Comedian Gordon Zola.

Creative Writing Workshop

Jazz - Cuba Vida @ The Olympus Restaurant

The South American group did an excellent job of bringing a taste of warm weather to a wet and dank winter's day in Bolton. The infectious rythms had a good portion of the audience on their fee and dancing for most of the evening. And Feedback suggested a good time was had by all.

They were joined a wide variety of performers including musician Lazarus Ray, comedians Lewis Murphy and Sean Moran and poets Dave Morgan & Andy Millican.

Due to the onset of the Coronavirus in March 2020 we decided to cancel all events in the real world and concentrate on the virtual world.
In March we invited contributions to this year's anthology with the theme of 'Masks' though we decided to put off the launch until April 2021

WORKTOWN WORDS EZINE
in Late March we launched a new website for new writing https://worktownwords.uk/ which had various guest curators and produced a fortnightly edition of new writing. Curators for the year have been: Dave Burnham, Scott Devon, Dave Morgan, Rita Gornall & Carol Cleary, Lavinia Murray, Paul Blackburn. Chris Chilton, Kim Edwards-Keats, Gareth Preston, Sarah Maclennan, Melanie Neads, Dr Nat Clare, Lory Povah, Hannah Middleshaw and Vicky Entwistle.
We have encouraged writers from across Bolton and wider afield to take part and we have place special emphasis on new writers work being included wherever possible. The result has seen an explosion in creativity with over 70 writers being published.
WORKTOWN WORDS ANTHOLOGY
After the first 10 issues of the online magazine, we decided to produce an anthology of 42 selected works from those appearing in the various editions, quite a few from first time writers.
VIRTUAL ARCHIVE CABARET
In early April, with the assistance of Gareth Preston, we put together from the archive a virtual event featuring: Alabaster dePlume, Anjum Malik. Dave Morgan, Hannah Middleshaw, Paul Gastall, Jeff Dawson, Peter Firth, Peter Crompton, Gordon Zola, Christopher Tavener, Emily Cook, Kevin Bates and F James Hartnell. The performances spanned several years to current performances.
We decided to host a 'stay-safe' online cabaret in May and carried it on in June, July and August. We hosted it in our Facebook page and performers included Peter Firth, Gordon Zola, Chris Kehoe, Eve Nortley, Michael Chadwick, Kathleen Proctor, Paul Gaskell and Kevin Bates.
