This was another eventful year with lots of activity and events...

 

First event of the year was Jazz at the Olympus Restaurant in Bolton in February and featured Cuba Libra.

Following our immensely successful Christmas Special, Live from Worktown continued its partnership with the Olympus Restaurant to bring this  consistently popular Latin band, Cuba Vida. Winter blues were banished with a big serving of rhythm from Rio to Havana.

Theatre

In early April, Dick Perkin's play 'Obituary on a postcard' had a short tour of Bolton: with free events, supported by the ambition for ageing programme, at the Ukrainian club, All Souls and St Lukes; followed by a gala opening at Bolton Little Theatre.

Jeremy Sassoon Quartet - Sunday 14th April

The silky voiced jazz man returned with a band consisting of: Jeremy Sassoon (vocals and keyboard), Neil Yates (trumpet), Nicola Farnon (Double bass), Phil Johnson (drums).

George Wallace in the North West of England

George Wallace

The New York poet (pictured) gave master-class workshops and performances in Bolton at the Socialist Club, Liverpool at the Quakers meeting house, and Manchester at Gulivers on 18th, 19th and 20th June respectively.

Compered by Scott Devon (Bolton), Ali Harwood (Liverpool) and Melanie Rees (Manchester).

With Special guests: Hilary Walker (Bolton) and Louise Fazackerley (Liverpool) supported by poets from each of the areas. Unfortunately, guest for Manchester, John G Hall, was ill and couldn't attend.

After these performances George moved up to the Lake District to feature in events organised by Dr Geraldine Green.

The beautiful voiced chanteuse  returned with a band consisting of: Rosie Brown (vocals), Dean Masser (tenor sax), Les Chisnall (piano), Gary Culshaw (Double bass).

Combining the passion and musical excellence of Nel Begley, Katie Patterson, Pete Turner and Jamil Sheriff - the quartet depicts the story of a family on the edge using spoken word, improvisation, synthesised soundscapes and carefully crafted songs.

A thoroughly entertaining and immersive experience.

 Two Creative writing Workshops led by Louise Fazackerley Louise Fazackereley

The first workshop was on 28 August from 1pm to 3pm on 'Overheard' the theme of our next anthology, and the second was on 4 September from 1pm to 3pm on 'Truth' the theme for National Poetry Day.
